Email info@gymislife.app and a real person will answer. We aim to reply within two working days.

If something is broken, the fastest route is the Report bug button at the top of the app — the same thing appears as Report an issue in the menu. It sends what you type, the screen you were on, the build number, your device type and up to three screenshots if you attach them, which usually saves a round of questions.

Common questions

How does it decide today's weight?

From your last session on that exercise. Hit the top of the rep range on every set and it raises the weight next time; fall short and it holds the weight so you can build into it. The coaching line above each exercise tells you which is happening and what to aim for.

The machine I need is taken. What do I do?

Tap Machine busy? Swap on the exercise. You can filter by muscle group or by equipment type, and pick something that trains the same thing. Alternatives on the kit you've ticked are ranked first. The session carries on around it.

My gym doesn't have a machine the app suggested

Open the menu and go to Training Setup to change your equipment list. Your plan is built around the kit you have ticked, so updating it changes future sessions. If something still turns up that your gym doesn't have, use Machine busy? Swap on the exercise and tell us — that one shouldn't be in your pool.

How do I back up my data?

Menu → Backup & Restore → Export Backup Now. That produces a single file containing everything. Keep it somewhere safe — your training history lives on your device and we hold no copy we could restore it from, so if you lose the device without a backup, it's gone. To restore, use Choose Backup File on the new device.

How do I change my goal or my training days?

Menu → Training Setup. Changing your goal changes the rep ranges and rest times for future sessions.

Can I build my own plan instead?

Yes. In Training Setup you can switch between having the app build the plan, building your own from a split, or leaving it empty for a personal trainer to fill in.

Does it work without a signal?

Logging works offline — everything is stored on your device. Exercise demonstration videos are streamed, so those need a connection; everything else carries on as normal.

How will I cancel my subscription?

When the paid subscription launches it will be managed by Apple or by Google, not by us.

On your iPhone: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → GymIsLife → Cancel Subscription.

On Android: open the Play Store app → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → GymIsLife → Cancel subscription.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the free trial ends and you are not charged, and you keep access until the trial ends. Otherwise you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.

How does the free trial work?

The trial runs for 7 days. You start it from inside the app and confirm it with your Apple ID or Google account at that point, so a payment method is set up on day one — before the trial begins. Nothing is charged during the seven days. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you pay nothing at all — that cut-off is the store's, not ours: Apple requires cancellation at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and Google at least a day before the renewal date. If you do not cancel, the paid subscription starts automatically. If you decide not to subscribe, the app locks when the trial ends and you will not be able to use it until you do. Your training data remains on your device either way.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds go through the store you bought from, under that store's own terms — Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, or Google through your Google Play order history. If something has gone wrong at our end, tell us and we will help you make the case.

How do I delete everything?

Deleting the app removes your data from the device. Your weights, reps, records, habits and diary entries are not held on our servers — except for anything you have sent us yourself, in a bug report or an email, including any screenshots attached, which we keep for up to 24 months. The app does ask our own server which demonstration video belongs to an exercise, so exercise names and their equipment categories reach us that way; the privacy policy sets that out.

Separately from your training data: if you joined the launch list on our home page, we hold your email address. It sits with the form provider, a working copy goes to our mailing provider as the list moves across, and the spam check that ran when you submitted the form took its own copy — so it is in more than one place, and unsubscribing stops the email without deleting any of them. The privacy policy names each one and says which of them we can delete.

Email us and we will delete whatever of this we hold — bug reports, emails you have sent us, your launch-list address, and the subscription record described in the privacy policy — within one month, and confirm when it is done. If we hold nothing, we will say so in writing. One honest limit: the subscription record is kept under a random identifier with no name or email beside it, so we cannot always tell which one is yours. Tell us which store you bought through and roughly when, and we will find it if we can and say plainly if we cannot. See the privacy policy for the detail.

Still stuck?

Email info@gymislife.app. Tell us what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead — and include your device model and iOS or Android version if you can.
